'Change for Main" banquet set Aug. 27
The Leesville Main Street Organization will host its annual "Change for Main" banquet and piccadilly auction on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 27 at St. Michael's Catholic Center at 105 West South Street in Leesville. There will be a cash bar at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the auction at 7:30 p.m. The meal will be catered by Deep South Catering. There will be a live painting demonstration by artist Morgan Lasyone. There will also be musical entertainment.
Tickets are $30 for an individual, $50 for a couple and $200 for a table of eight. You can purchase tickets at The Gift Gallery in downtown Leesville. Tickets will also be available at the door.
All proceeds benefit projects supported by Leesville Main Street.

Reese receives Association of Defense Communities honor
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Mike Reese, Fort Polk Progress chairman, was honored with the community/state leadership award by the Association of Defense Communities at the ADC National Summit in Washington, D.C. on June 21.
According to the association, the award is given to an "individual whose outstanding leadership helps (1) drive the success of a base redevelopment project; and/or (2) build a military-community partnership to enhance the mission of an active installation. A nominee may be an elected or appointed (non-military) official at the state, regional or local level, a volunteer, or the chief executive officer of a local redevelopment authority (or equivalent organization)." The Chamber made the announcement at its June 14 general membership luncheon.
This status will assist in economic development and job growth endeavors.

Scholarship winners recognized
The Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce recently recognized the recipients of the Chamber's 2016 scholarships. The Chamber awarded five $1,000 scholarships to area graduating seniors. Winners were Haley Tackett, Leesville; Ashley Swofford, Leesville; Easton Vinson, Pickering; and Madison Morrison, Pitkin. Shown are Tackett, Swofford, Vinson, and Morrison.
